<About Rambles & Shambles>

Why writing here?

Let's face it, I'm a chatter-box. And on top of that, I love writing. So, since I can't seriously contemplate keeping up with the habbit of sending (hopefully) amusing mails to my friends everytime I have something to blabber on about, I'll post it out there from now on!
To get to point, here's a top seven list of reasons to have this site:
1 - It sounds fun to have an online life (so I shall find out exactly how fun!)
2 - I have to say these things. If they're good news, I'm happy to be sharing them, if they're pissing me off, I need to rant on about them to kick off the negative energy in me, and then I can start thinking it through.
3 - I'm sort of nostalgic of my old paper diary. Yeah, I used to have a paper diary, written on school copy books, always in red ink. This page is pretty much how it looked like...
4 - I'm intrigued by online diaries and blogs. I have to figure out for myself how different they are from paper diaries. I mean, we're on the web, anyone can read this, right? And anyone can react, too.
5 - I've had this idea bugging me since I first learnt about online journals throught On Display. I want to see if I can keep up the challenge of updating this regularly enough.
6 - It's a good way to keep track of things, a sort of memento pad .
7 - It's usually fun to read this again after a while, and realize how selective human memory actually is.

Why writing in English?

I'm French, and English is not my first language. That's probably what the explanation comes down to, in the end. To clarify this issue, I'll add that I've always been eager to understand and learn foreign languages. The first foreign language that I was taught happened to be English, and that was back in 6th grade (I'm saying happened, because it really just happened. My choice at the time would have been German. My Gran's suggestions were Japaneese or Russian. But the highschool I went to offered nothing but English. So that's what I took...) Ever since, I have had a real, deep passion for the English language, reading all books and magazines in English that came my way, talking to people in English whenever it was possible -even when it was not appropriate as some will complain- going abroad whenever I could for this purpose... I never really had such a complete and constant enthousiasm, natural feeling, for any of the other languages I attempted to learn afterwards. For the time being, I'm back in France, I don't have anyone to talk to in English, and I miss it! So that's the main reason for choosing English as the language this diary should be written into. Another reason would be that previous paper diaries were also mainly written in English, and yet another reason would be that I need to keep up with my English - I like the challenge of finding ways to say things that come to me in French in English... That's part of the passion thing, you see...
